Planning for general power outages

Industry sector: Industrials

In order to carry out work, the complete shutdown of the electricity supply to a mine on its entire production site is required annually. The interruption has serious consequences since it impacts all activities and there is a risk of a long restart. This is why the duration of the shutdown must be reduced to a minimum in order to limit losses.

Challenges

The main challenge is to restart on time or earlier. As long as the restart is not executed, the losses accumulate. The STI Maintenance team used its expertise to help optimize shutdown duration and prevent start-up delays.

Through its protocol, it has reduced the risks of having to rework the site after start-up, in particular by taking additional and preventive actions in that sense.

“STI Maintenance knows our practices very well and they have been efficient to carry out the mandates that we have granted them since the beginning. Their skills in the field made both their planning actions and their maintenance and reliability readiness documentation very relevant.”

The results

Following rigorous and quality planning, the results are there. No accident or incident during the shutdown period, all of the work was carried out in an optimized time, i.e. 20% less than originally planned. A performance that pays off down the line for our client.
